More missions to enhance road safety in Azerbaijan
A multi-day online mission involving experts from Poland, Lithuania and representatives of several public institutions from Azerbaijan dealing with road safety in the country lasted from 3rd until 6th of June.
Experts from CEUTP and LTSA presented their know-how on the importance of road safety indicators for assessing the current state and taking further measures to improve the safety on the roads in Azerbaijan.
Representatives of the Azerbaijani administration, including the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, the Ministry of Science and Education, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Health, the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency, the Ministry of Interior, the Baku Transport Agency, and TABİB (Administration of Regional Medical Branches) actively participated in the meetings.
Experts from Poland and Lithuania plan to gather information on the indicators and methodologies currently in use in this area in Azerbaijan, including those related to acceptable road speed, safety equipment, seatbelts and child seats, drink-driving, distraction behind the wheel, general vehicle safety, road infrastructure and medical care after an accident.
One of the outcomes of the mission will be a report assessing the methodology and description of road safety indicators in Azerbaijan, with recommendations for their alignment with international standards and the creation of a new set of road safety indicators, incorporating descriptions and methodology in line with the EU system of indicators.
The mission took place within the framework of the project entitled ‘Increasing Road Safety in Azerbaijan’, which is being implemented by CEUTP in cooperation with LTSA and will last until October 2024.
