EU support for construction and purchase of new specialized rescue units
The Center for EU Transport Projects has signed a grant agreement for the project “Construction and purchase of new specialized rescue vessels for the SAR Service” (No. FENX.05.07-IP.02-0001/25). The beneficiary of the project is the Maritime Search and Rescue Service.
The project, implemented within the framework of the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment 2021-2027 (FEnIKS) program, aims to significantly strengthen the marine rescue system and the effectiveness of response to threats in Polish waters.
Scope of the project
The project includes:
- Construction of a new multipurpose specialized rescue vessel,
- Construction of six new SAR-2000-type vessels for rapid response in maritime conditions,
- Purchase of two cabin rescue boats for operations in the Vistula Lagoon and the Szczecin Lagoon,
- The purchase of seven pieces of support equipment, including trucks equipped with portable communications, working with SAR-2000 units and cabin boats,
- Purchase of three specialized units for combating oil pollution in sheltered and shallow waters.
Funding and schedule
- Total project value: 455,082,352.95 PLN
- EU funding: 386,820,000.00 PLN
- Implementation period: September 20, 2024. – June 30, 2029.
Effects and significance of the project
The implementation of the project will enable a significant increase in the operational capabilities of the SAR Service and enhance safety in Polish maritime areas. The new units will enable faster responses in life-threatening situations, facilitate rescue operations in challenging conditions, and more effectively counteract pollution of the water environment.
The project represents a further step toward modernising maritime security infrastructure as a part of a strategy to strengthen resilience and improve the quality of public services in the transportation sector.
