European Commission unblocks nearly PLN 600 billion for Poland

The European Commission today issued a decision confirming Poland’s compliance with the basic condition for the application of the Charter of Fundamental Rights. Previously considered unfulfilled for both FEnIKS and FEPW, it blocked expenditure reimbursements under all Partnership Contract programmes.

Poland will receive massive financial support from the European Union. The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced the unblocking of nearly PLN 600 billion from the Cohesion Policy and the National Recovery Plan (NRP). These funds are an opportunity to modernise the Polish economy, improve the energy security of citizens and entrepreneurs and support innovation and the use of new technologies.

Largest budget for Poland under the Cohesion Policy

Under the Cohesion Policy 2021-2027, Poland has the largest budget among EU countries. It amounts to more than PLN 340 billion and is divided between national and regional programmes.

These activities will contribute to levelling out the differences in development between Poland and other EU countries, including the development of all regions of our country.

The money will provide an additional boost to the social and economic development of the regions. They will revitalise the country’s balanced territorial development. They will support the development of entrepreneurship in Poland, the labour market, research, environmental protection and improve transport accessibility.

Unblocked EU funds and CEUTP

Within FEnIKS, FEPW and NRP, the Centre is responsible for almost €20 billion of EU funds for Poland in the transport sector, including €13 billion under the FEnIKS and FEPW (railways only) and almost €7 billion (before revision) under NRP (grants and loans).
