More than PLN 193.5 million for new trams for Wrocław – we have signed an contract on co-financing from the European Funds
The Centre for EU Transport Projects has concluded another funding contract under the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment 2021-2027 programme. More than PLN 193.5 million was transferred to Wrocław – the city will use the money to purchase 33 modern, ecological, comfortable and safe trams.
Project No FENX.03.01-IP.02-0023/24 entitled “Purchase of tramway rolling stock for Wrocław – stage I” has received more than PLN 193.5 million in funding from the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment 2021-2027 programme under action FENX.03.01 – Urban transport.
The Wrocław transport operator will use the money to purchase nine new PESA trams, as well as to refinance the previously purchased 24 modern, low-floor vehicles. The latter ones carry passengers along three new tram lines: Sępolno – Kozanów, Tarnogaj – Pilczyce, Pilczyce – Kromera. The total cost of the investment exceeds PLN 291 million.
European Funds for Wrocław
The investment is an important element of the Wrocław Tram and Bus Programme for 2024-2032, which envisages the comprehensive development of public transport in the province town of Lower Silesia. Better, more comfortable and greener public transport is not only a benefit for residents, but also improves air quality and reduces greenhouse gas emissions in the city.
Wrocław is systematically investing in the development of the tram network – construction works are currently in progress for new lines to Maślice, Swojczyce, Klecina, Księże Wielkie and Psie Pole, among others. Investment in tram rolling stock and infrastructure means better transport accessibility in the city, reduced journey times and greater reliability of public transport.
Focusing on urban mobility
Measure FENX.03.01 supports the development of sustainable urban mobility through investment in zero-emission rolling stock, intelligent traffic management systems and the expansion of transport infrastructure in cities and their functional areas. In total, Poland received PLN 8.5 billion from the European Funds for this purpose.
To date, the CEUTP has already signed eight funding contracts for a total of around PLN 2.5 billion (as at 25.06.2025). At the same time, another 79 applications are being assessed – the total value of support applied for by entitled parties is around PLN 4.8 billion.
