Improving railway safety with the support from the European Funds

We granted PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe over PLN 25.6 million in funding for the construction of safe two-level crossings, as well as removal of selected railway crossings. Funding for this project comes from the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and Environment 2021–2027 programme.

The project titled “Poprawa bezpieczeństwa na skrzyżowaniach linii kolejowych z drogami – Etap IV” (Improvement of safety on crossings intersecting with road traffic – Stage IV) covers:
  • construction of a road tunnel under the railway line no. 3 along the Warszawa – Kunowice route, at the 41.740 km mark in Teresin, together with the removal of a cat. A railway crossing at the 41.740 km mark of the railway line no. 3,
  • construction of a road tunnel under the railway line no. 7 at the 38.370 km mark, along Jankowskiego Street in Celestynów, together with the removal of an existing cat. A railway crossing at the 38.364 km mark of the railway line no. 7,
  • construction of a road viaduct along Lutycka Street in Poznań, at the 2.122 km mark of the railway line no. 354, together with the removal of an existing cat. A railway crossing at the 2.151 km mark of the railway line no. 354,
  • construction of a road viaduct along Golęcińska Street in Poznań, at the 1.615 km mark of the railway line no. 354, together with the removal of an existing cat. A railway crossing at the 1.395 km mark of the railway line no. 354.

Depending on the task, the funding will cover planned, ongoing, or completed construction works. The total value of the project is estimated at almost PLN 220 million.

Who will benefit from the investment?

Those, who will benefit the most from the project, are the residents of towns and cities located in the vicinity of the railway line, as well as the renovated facilities. They include road users, as well as pedestrians and cyclists. Construction of new, safer crossings will improve safety and reduce traffic congestion.

Groups that will benefit the most from the project are:
  • the general public, residents of the areas nearest to the investment sites, as well as the entire region,
  • transport operators, i.e., local governments, as well as carriers, such as operators of the collective public transport at the national level,
  • entrepreneurs using the railway line to transport cargo.

What are the results

PKP PLK is implementing the project in order to:

  • improve railway and road traffic safety,
  • decrease travel times of trains within international and interregional transport, as well as between agglomerations,
  • improve railway line capacity,
  • ensure railway interoperability,
  • reduce the negative impact of transport on the environment.
