More than PLN 1.4 billion for the modernization of the Warsaw-Otwock line
The conclusion of the funding agreement was announced at a press conference held on January 29, 2026, at the Warsaw Falenica railroad station. The event was attended by representatives of the government, local government, PKP PLK and CEUTP.
– This is one of the most important railroad investments in Poland. In addition to Rail Baltica, this stage of reconstruction of the line between Warsaw and Lublin and further to Dorohusk, is the largest project not only in Poland, but in this part of Europe. The modernization of the Warsaw Wawer – Otwock section is supported by PLN 1.4 billion from the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment program. This is another such project in the Warsaw area, after the reconstruction of the Warszawa Zachodnia station, which we are implementing,” Jan Szyszko, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Funds and Regional Policy.
– The investment will bring a real improvement in the quality of travel for thousands of residents of the Warsaw agglomeration and will strengthen long-distance connections of national importance. A modern, safe and accessible railroad is an investment for decades to come,” Sylwia Cieślak-Wilk, deputy director of the Centre for EU Transport Projects.
– Stabilne finansowanie przedsięwzięcia ze środków Unii Europejskiej daje nam możliwość realizowania dużych projektów infrastrukturalnych. Linia otwocka to tylko jeden z nich. Rozbudowa i modernizacja połączenia Otwocka ze stolicą to kluczowe zadanie dla poprawy warunków podróżowania w obrębie Warszawskiego Węzła Kolejowego – Piotr Wyborski, prezes zarządu PKP Polskich Linii Kolejowych S.A.
What will the investment change?
The upgrade will allow:
- Construction of additional tracks and separation of agglomeration and long-distance traffic,
- Rebuilding and facilitating access to stations and stops,
- Increased safety through tunnels, overpasses and underground transitions,
- Reducing the travel time from Warsaw to Lublin to about 90 minutes.
Benefits for residents and the economy
- Faster and on-time connections for daily passengers.
- Improved comfort and infrastructure accessibility for all groups of travelers.
- Less traffic congestion and cleaner air by making rail transportation more attractive.
- An impetus for the economic development of Warsaw, Mazovia and Eastern Poland.
- Regional cohesion and efficient use of public funds, by closing the upgrade of the entire Line 7.
The work is scheduled for completion in 2028.
