From Warsaw to Krakow and the Tricity faster and safer – we have funding for the S7!
More good news for drivers! We have signed funding contracts for as many as three projects implemented by the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways. European funds will help to finalise the construction of the missing sections of the S7 (Miechów – Szczepanowice and Płońsk – Czosnów) and the creation of the Tricity metropolitan ring-road.
It is about major support from the European Union. The three projects received a total of as much as PLN 2.43 billion in funding. The funding comes from the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and the Environment 2021-2027 (FEnIKS) programme. The implementation of the projects is intended to help complete the TEN-T pan-European road network.
A better connection between Warsaw, Kraków and the Tricity
PLN 118,300,459.20 of EU funding will go towards the construction of the S7 express road section Miechów – Szczepanowice. It is an investment located in the northern part of the Lesser Poland Province. The funding created a 5.316 km stretch of traffic-free express road. This is a key part of the connection between Warsaw and Kraków – until recently drivers had to use a narrow and dangerous single carriageway road here.
However, the exit from the capital towards the Tricity is still under construction. Travellers to the Baltic Sea are familiar with the section north of Warsaw: although two lanes are available in each direction, national road No. 7 does not meet modern safety standards. There are pedestrian crossings at carriageway level and intersections with local roads equipped with traffic lights. With the ongoing construction of the S7 express road, this will soon change. As much as 34.64 km of new, traffic-free road is being built between Płońsk and Czosnów. The investment will consume as much as PLN 2.834 billion – as much as PLN 1,246,808,075.80 will be provided by the European Union under the FEnIKS programme.
Tricity metropolis gains a new ring road
There is also a third contract: for the construction of a 31.80 km bypass of the Tricity metropolitan Area within the S7 express road, together with a section of national road 20 with a total length of approximately 6.27 km. The project is located in the Pomeranian province, in the city of Gdańsk and the districts of Gdańsk and Kartuzy, in the municipalities of Gdańsk, Żukowo, Kolbudy and Pruszcz Gdański. The project, worth PLN 2.892 billion, received support amounting to PLN 1,065,102,391.46!
