New stations, better accessibility. EU millions for modernization of railroads in northern Poland
Four cities, one goal: a modern, accessible and comfortable railroad. Koszalin, Slupsk, Stargard, and Gdynia Chylonia are among the beneficiaries of another major PKP S.A. project that has received support from European Funds. Thanks to the EU subsidy, railroad stations in these cities will undergo comprehensive reconstruction and become more passenger-friendly, regardless of age or fitness level.
On April 17, 2026, we signed an agreement with PKP S.A. for funding of the project titled “Construction and expansion of selected railroad stations in the northern part of Poland along railroad lines 202, 250, 351, 405, 964.” The total value of the investment is nearly PLN 180 million, of which more than PLN 123.3 million comes from the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and Environment 2021-2027 (FEnIKS).
Rail closer to the people
Redevelopment of railway stations is not just the renovation of buildings. It is first and foremost an investment in traveller comfort and a real improvement in the accessibility of public transportation. The new solutions are expected to make it easier for people with disabilities, seniors, families with children or passengers with heavy luggage to use the railroad. At the same time, the stations are to become important hubs of the local transportation system – better integrated with public transportation and other infrastructure.
– These are projects that make a real difference to the quality of daily travel. Modern, accessible stations strengthen the attractiveness of railroads and encourage people to choose the train over the car, CEUTP representatives emphasise.
Koszalin: new station with respect for history
The biggest changes await the train station in Koszalin. The current building will be demolished, but with the preservation of valuable historical elements – including walls with historic sgraffito. In their neighbourhood, a new, expanded facility will be built and adapted to the needs of modern passengers.
The scope of work also includes extending the road tunnel to the station building, rebuilding the stairs leading to the square, and cleaning up the surrounding area. Parking spaces for people with disabilities will be created, and the station will be technically prepared to connect to the Dynamic Passenger Information System. Construction work began in February 2023 and will last until October 2027.
Stargard: new functionality within the existing walls
In Stargard, the reconstruction will begin in 2028 and be completed by the end of 2029. The modernisation will include the main station building and the former baggage room. Importantly, the work will be carried out without changing the buildings’ dimensions – the interiors, however, will be extensively rebuilt and adapted to the new functions.
The station will be fully accessible to people with disabilities and will meet the requirements of European PRM TSI standards and universal design principles. The facility will also be integrated with modern passenger information systems.
Gdynia Chylonia: modernization and energy efficiency
In Gdynia Chylonia, the station will undergo a comprehensive reconstruction combined with thermal modernization. This is an important part of the project – improved energy efficiency means lower maintenance costs and less environmental impact.
The scope of work will also include adaptation of the facility to the needs of people with disabilities and new landscaping around the station. The investment is scheduled for 2026-2027.
Slupsk: new railway station from scratch
A brand new railroad station building is under construction in Slupsk. The investment includes not only the building itself, but also a comprehensive reconstruction of networks and connections: electricity, water, sewage, heat and telecommunications.
The new station will be fully accessible and prepared to implement dynamic passenger information systems. The work is scheduled for completion in June 2027.
Investment in the future of transportation
The modernization of railroad stations in northern Poland is part of a broader strategy to develop railroads as a safe, accessible and competitive mode of transportation. To date, as part of the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate, Environment program, we have granted funding for the construction of new and the modernization and reconstruction of existing railroad stations, stations and stops for more than 70 railroad stations (as of 10.04.2026 – 70 units according to signed funding agreements). Thanks to these investments, railroads are becoming more passenger-friendly and better able to meet the challenges of modern mobility.
