Mission to create a road safety awareness strategy in Azerbaijan
A three-day mission dedicated to the “National strategy for raising awareness and communication in the field of road safety, including the prepared and implemented plan of advocacy and promotion activities” as part of the Increasing Road Safety in Azerbaijan project which is leded by CEUPT is behind us.
The goal of the mission was to start preparations of a comprehensive road safety strategy that aims to build the necessary awareness on various aspects of road safety, such as speeding, drunk driving, seat belt use, distracted driving, etc., requires intensive work and cooperation of all stakeholders project.
On May 16-18, experts from Poland and Lithuania with experience in this field and the creation of such documents held several fruitful meetings with representatives of many Azerbaijani institutions based in Baku. The meetings served to identify key areas that needed to be explored in this strategic document.
Representatives of the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport, the Azerbaijan Land Transport Agency, the National Automobile Club of Azerbaijan, as well as the Azerbaijan University of Technology and the University of Architecture and Construction familiarized themselves with successful social campaigns carried out in Lithuania and Poland in this area. The experts discussed the implementation of similar campaigns in Azerbaijan and identified the specific target groups of this document.
A Polish-Lithuanian group of experts from the Centre for EU Transport Projects, the Ministry of Development Funds and Regional Policy and the Lithuanian Transport Safety Administration continues to work on the strategy after returning from the mission. We will inform about the progress of work on the strategy on the CEUTP website.
