Moldovan lesson of Polish mobility. Four-day TAIEX study visit
From discussion to facts
Warsaw, Katowice, Cracow – each of these locations is a different dimension of urban mobility and a case study. Guests from the National Centre for Sustainable Energy and the Ministry of Energy of Moldova visited the Centre for EU Transport Projects, a modern transfer centre in Katowice and urban transport investments in Krakow.
The route of the visit included not only lectures and presentations, but above all practical workshops and walks around the key communication points of a given city.
The participants talked about urban sustainable mobility plans (SUMPs) – their preparation, implementation and monitoring, green transport strategies, as well as social participation and financing tools for modern solutions (from European Funds to public-private partnerships). A special place was devoted to practice: Polish local governments shared their experiences with the implementation of electric buses, the creation of intelligent traffic management systems or the designation of low-emission zones.
Experts and practitioners at the same table
The Polish part of the program was represented by CEUTP experts, local government officials from the Upper Silesian and Zagłębie Metropolis and Krakow, as well as representatives of the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management and non-governmental organizations. Challenges were also discussed: how to build social cohesion, how to adapt transport to climate change and how to involve residents in planning the future of communication.
Knowledge that mobilizes
The study visit was an opportunity to talk not only about tools and regulations, but also about the effective cooperation of different communities involved in the green transformation of urban transport.
“It is often the practical experience of other countries that is the best inspiration for effective changes ,” sums up Karolina Ptaszyńska, Head of the Partnership Projects Unit at CEUTP. “We hope that this intensive exchange of know-how will result in new projects and an even better understanding of the challenges of sustainable mobility in our region of Europe ,” she adds.
