New trains for Dolnośląskie Voivodship
Koleje Dolnośląskie will purchase a total of 20 5-car electric multiple units from PESA Bydgoszcz. The trains will operate, among others, on the routes from Wrocław to Legnica, Strzelin, Brzeg, Rawicz and Namysłów, as well as on the Legnica – Złotoryja route.
The total value of funding for the three concluded agreements comes to almost PLN 618 million.
New vehicles will:
- reach the speed of 160 km/h,
- meet all current safety standards,
- provide comfortable and accessible means of transport for people with disabilities and limited mobility,
- be equipped with air conditioning, video surveillance, and USB ports, among other things.
The first deliveries will set out by the end of 2025, to be completed by mid-2026.
New rolling stock for Śląskie Voivodship
With the support from NRRP – amounting to almost PLN 126.5 million – Koleje Śląskie will purchase 5 new 4-car trains from NEWAG. The train compositions – each with at least 380 passenger seats – will handle regional transport. All of them will be adapted to meet the needs of people with disabilities. The operator estimates that, within a year, they will cover a distance of as much as 180.000 km, which is over four times the length of the equator. Koleje Śląskie received the first three train compositions in February of this year, while the rest will be delivered to the company by the end of February 2026.
Later this month – a new agreement
By the end of October 2025, we will sign an agreement with Śląskie Voivodship for the purchase of 5 electric trains worth PLN 126 million. The new rolling stock will operate, among others, on the following routes:
- Częstochowa – Katowice – Gliwice
- Katowice – Rybnik – Racibórz
- Katowice – Tarnowskie Góry – Lubliniec
Benefits for passengers and regions
Thanks to the NRRP funding, regional rail operators will receive 30 modern trains, which will:
- increase the comfort and safety of travel,
- improve travel offer during rush hours,
- contribute to the reduction of traffic congestion and air pollution.
Investment in a new modern rolling stock will result in a real improvement of public transport quality, as well as support the efforts towards sustainable mobility in Poland.
