Lower Silesian railroad with KPO support for modernization

We have transferred more than PLN 114.6 million from the National Plan for Reconstruction and Increasing Resilience for the revitalisation of sections of railroad lines 319, 326 and 341. In total, work will be carried out on more than 33 kilometres. The investment is part of a larger project to modernise railroads in Lower Silesia.

Support of PLN 114,659,637.60 was received from the Lower Silesian Regional Government together with the Lower Silesian Road and Railway Service. These funds will cover a significant portion of the project, as the total cost of the planned works is expected to be just over PLN 141 million.

#RailwayInvestment Times

The investment is part of a larger project to modernise railroad lines in Lower Silesia. With the NRP under the contract just signed, the local government is to carry out revitalisation work on railroad lines:

  • No. 319 on the nearly 17.4-kilometre section of the Strzelin – Kondratowice – Lagiewniki route (from km 33,763 to km 51, 139),
  • No. 326 between Wroclaw Psie Pole and Trzebnica on the section from km 1.260 to km 10.330 and from km 13.130 to km 14.840 for a length of about 10.78 km,
  • No. 341 between Bielawa Zachodnia and Dzierżoniów (from km – 0.025 to km 5.118, about 5.143 km).

Scope of project

The venture includes such works as:

Railroad line No. 319 (scheduled to restore traffic in Q1 2027):
  • Renewal of the track on the Kondratowice-Lagiewniki section (replacement of the ballast, strengthening of the substructure, and new prestressed concrete sleepers).
  • Arrangement of drainage and restoration of ditches.
  • Profiling of embankments to improve stability.
  • Revitalisation of 25 culverts and 10 bridges, as well as new pavements at 30 level crossings.
  • One new stop/bypass; in Kondratowice – a 3-track layout with a passing track
  • Two turnouts for future sidings that will reduce truck traffic and emissions in the area.
  • Installation of modern SSP and SRK security equipment, as well as teletechnical and energy infrastructure.
Railroad line No. 326 (trafficwill resume immediately after the revitalisation work is completed):
  • Comprehensive replacement of the railroad superstructure with a new one (i.e. rails, sleepers and ballast)
  • Implementation of subgrade load-bearing capacity stabilization,
  • drainage repair,
  • Repair of rail-road crossings.
Railroad line No. 341 (without stopping rail traffic):
  • Reinforcement of the substructure by injection to correspond to the bearing capacity with a speed of V≤100km/h and a transport volume of 3≤T<10 [Tg/year].
  • Installation of SSP and SRK equipment.

Why is this important?

Benefits to the region:
  • Improved transportation accessibility,
  • Renewal of transportation routes connecting smaller towns with larger centres,
  • Improved connections between Strzelin, Kondratowice, Łagiewniki, Wrocław, Bielawa and Dzierżoniów,
  • Increasing the resilience of the infrastructure to increase the intensity of rail traffic,
  • Strengthening regional mobility and integrity.
Benefits for residents
  • Safer crossings and daily mobility for travelers, drivers and pedestrians,
  • less traffic load, thanks to the diversion of some heavy transport from roads to tracks,
  • Improved quality of life through reduced noise, lower dust and exhaust emissions,
  • More convenient, faster and cheaper public transportation, especially in suburban relations (e.g., Wrocław – Trzebnica; Bielawa – Dzierżoniów).
Benefits for the local and regional economy
  • Support for local businesses and industrial plants (Górka Sobocka Mine, Strzelin), which will allow companies to transfer the transportation of materials from road to rail, and as a result: reduce logistics costs, increase road capacity for other users, and reduce delays and congestion risks.
  • increase the investment attractiveness of the region
  • Transportation stability conducive to labor market development

New COMBO passenger cars on the tracks. How European funds are changing the Polish railroad and economy

PKP Intercity is consistently modernizing its rolling stock thanks to funds from the NRP. On April 2 this year, the carrier presented the first of 50 COMBO passenger cars that will soon be put into service. This is an important stage of the CEUTP-supported project.
