Over PLN 76.8 million from NRRP for modernisation of line no. 250

We granted PKP Szybka Kolej Miejska w Trójmieście Sp. z o.o. over PLN 76.8 million from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The funds will be used for the development of railway line no. 250, which the residents of Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia use daily.

The investment will improve passengers’ safety and comfort, while the trains will run more often and punctually. The modernisation will cover over 16.5 km of railway network, four turnouts and two stops.

The project consists of three main parts:

Modern railway traffic management systems
Replacement of a one-way track circuit block at the railway line no. 250 on the following routes:

• Gdańsk Oliwa – Sopot and Gdańsk Oliwa (SRK),
• Sopot – Gdynia Orłowo,
• Gdańsk Wrzeszcz – Gdańsk Oliwa,
• Gdynia Orłowo – Gdynia Główna.

On the sections, which haven’t yet been modernised, the infrastructure manager will replace the outdated system from 1978 with a modern, electronic block. This will ensure:

• safer traffic management,
• increased frequency of trains,
• faster redirection of trains into another track in case of an emergency,
• control of the device from neighbouring stations, as well as NZS Gdynia Główna and NZS Gdańsk Główny,
• the possibility of installing the ETCS system in the future.

Refinancing the extension of the Gdańsk Oliwa station
The works consisted of the construction of four regular turnouts. Thanks to this, a complete turnout crossing was made on the Gdańsk Oliwa – Sopot route. This extension will result in:

• shortening the distance of the Gdańsk Oliwa – Sopot route, which, in turn, will shorten travel time from 7 to 5 minutes,
• smoother running of trains in both directions on each of the tracks,
• increased tracks capacity, even in emergency situations,
• improved reliability and safety of public railway transport.

Modernisation of two stops: SKM Gdańsk Stocznia and SKM Gdynia Stocznia Uniwersytet Morski
The scope of works includes:

• new access points for people with limited mobility,
• lifts and facilities for people with disabilities,
• new shelters, as well as elements of street furniture,
• replacement of all platform surfaces.

Thanks to this, the stops will become safer and more comfortable, especially for the elderly, parents with kids, and people with disabilities.

A modern and accessible railway in Tricity is an investment into comfort of residents, as well as development of the entire metropolis. The PKP SKM project is another step on the path towards safe and eco-friendly public transport, supported by CEUTP. Total cost of the undertaking equals nearly PLN 94.5 million.
