PKP, with the support from the European Funds, sets out towards stations in Łódzkie Voivodship
On 20 October this year, we signed a co-financing agreement with PKP S.A. to fund a project titled “Budowa i przebudowa wybranych dworców kolejowych w województwie łódzkim (Gałkówek, Koluszki, Skierniewice)” (Construction and renovation of selected railway stations in Łódzkie Voivodships (Gałkówek, Koluszki, Skierniewice)). The support provided amounted to almost PLN 44.5 million, and the funds come from the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and Environment 2021–2027 programme under the “FENX.04.02 Kolej w TEN-T” (Railway transport in TEN-T) action.Total cost of the project is nearly PLN 64 million.
The EU funding will help cover the majority of costs related to the – already completed – construction of a new railway station in Koluszki, as well as the modernisation of a historic building in Gałkówek. It will also cover the costs of a nearly-finished reconstruction of a building in Skierniewice.
The new railway station in Koluszki was opened at the beginning of 2025. The building can be distinguished by its simple shape, elevation made of decorative concrete and ceramic brick, as well as large windows, which give the construction a lighter feeling. On the inside, it features a modern waiting room, utility rooms and a commercial space. A clock tower was set right next to the building, as well as a roofed crossing, which the passengers can use to get from the station to the underground passageway leading to the platforms. Station building, together with the surrounding area, was adapted to the needs of people with disabilities and limited mobility. Architectural barriers were eliminated, and several improvements were introduced, e.g., tactile paving and plates with text in Braille. By utilising numerous technological solutions, as well as intelligent building management systems, the station in Koluszki has become a low-emission, energy-saving facility
Earlier – i.e., at the end of 2024 – the modernisation of a historic station building at Gałkówek station was finished. The works included a comprehensive renovation of the elevation, as well as complete refurbishment of the interiors, in order to adapt them to the needs of passengers. Several solutions were introduced to increase accessibility, e.g., a ramp, tactile paving for visually impaired, plates with text in Braille, as well as contrasting colours. The station was also equipped with energy-saving LED lighting, an intelligent building management system, as well as modern safety systems.
The modernisation of a railway station in Skierniewice is also nearing completion. The works included, e.g., replacement of installations, as well as adaptation of the building to meet the needs of people with disabilities. The station handles both long-distance trains, mainly travelling on the route between Łódź and Warsaw, and numerous regional connections.
The implementation of the project will contribute to the improvement of passengers’ comfort and safety, increase of railway transport accessibility, as well as reduction of emissions from railway infrastructure in Łódzkie Voivodship.
