With EU support, Bytom catches a ride into the future
The city of Bytom enters a new era of mobility, thanks to the support of the European Funds and the Centre for EU Transport Projects. An agreement for funding for the project titled “Mobilna Metropolia – Budowa Centrów Przesiadkowych na terenie gminy Bytom” (Mobile Metropolis – Construction of Transfer Centres within the Bytom Municipality) was signed in Warsaw. The value of the investment exceeds PLN 59 million, of which almost PLN 41 million comes from the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and Environment 2021–2027 programme.
The project covers the construction of two modern transfer centres – in Śródmieście and Karb districts. The plans include the creation of railway platforms, bus bays, car parks, safe passageways, bus charging stations, photovoltaic panels, as well as a passenger information system. In result, residents will get a real choice when it comes to available means of transport: bus, tram, railway, or bike – everything within an integrated system.
“Public transport only makes sense if it works for the benefit of the people. In Bytom, thanks to the support from the European Funds, a new system is under development, which will give passengers a real choice between a bus, tram, railway or bike – and everything will work in unison. Together, we are creating the next generation of public transport,” – emphasises Joanna Lech, the Director of CEUTP.
The completion of the investment is planned for the end of 2028. This is another example of how the European Funds change daily lives of residents and support the development of a sustainable transport in Poland.
