Almost PLN 197 million from NRRP for works on selected sections of railway line no. 131
Once again, we granted funding from the European Funds for the development of Polish railway and the revitalisation of the so-called Coal Trunk-Line. PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. received almost PLN 197 million from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (NRRP) for maintenance and increase of capacity on the following sections: Zduńska Wola Karsznice – Poddębice and Karczyn – Inowrocław Rąbinek.
The concluded agreement is good news for Polish railway transport – in merely a few days after we announced in Toruń (22 August 2025) granting PKP PLK funding from the European Funds for Infrastructure, Climate and Environment 2021–2027 programme in a record amount of PLN 4.6 billion.

Earlier, PKP PLK received funding from the same programme to continue revitalisation of the railway line no. 131 on the section: Chorzów Batory – Zduńska Wola Karsznice. For over PLN 947.6 million, including over PLN 700 million from the European Funds, railwaymen will renovate a total of 129.097 km of a double-track line, as well as 24.531 km of a single-track line.
What is the NRRP support for?
Thanks to the NRRP support, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe will revitalise a total of 50.8 km of railway lines for over PLN 242 million. The works will involve not only line no. 131, but also neighbouring lines, i.e.: 206, 543, 742 and 810. As a part of the project, the works will be conducted on two sections: Zduńska Wola Karsznice – Poddębice and Karczyn – Inowrocław Rąbinek.

Why is that important?
The revitalisation will benefit both the passengers, as well as the economy, including: transport operators, carriers, individual users and entrepreneurs.
Implementation of the project will allow to, among others:
- shorten travel times for passengers, as well as cargo transport,
- increase average speeds of trains, thanks to the removal of places limiting the speed,
- improve capacity of railway lines, as well as frequency and punctuality of connections,
- increase accessibility of railway transport,
- improve safety of railway traffic, passengers, transported cargo, as well as road traffic on railway crossings,
- reduce the negative impact of transport on the environment.
It is estimated that, thanks to modernisation, the following parameters can be achieved:
- passenger trains:
- line no. 131 – 120 km/h
- line no. 206 – 100 km/h
- line no. 742 – 60 km/h
- line no. 810 – 60 km/h
- line no. 543 – 60 km/h
- cargo trains:
- line no. 131 – 100 km/h
- line no. 206 – 100 km/h
- line no. 742 – 60 km/h
- line no. 810 – 60 km/h
- line no. 543 – 60 km/h.
