Zyrardow railway station will change its face – thanks to European Funds
Thanks to EU funds, the railway station in Zyrardow, dating from the 1920s, will change its face. The planned investment will include a comprehensive reconstruction of the historic station building made in the so-called “national style,” which is a mixture of a Polish noble manor house with Renaissance and Baroque motifs. Details related to the investment will be known after the receipt of the project documentation, but it can already be said that the modernization will be carried out with respect for the historic character of the station.
Once completed, the functionality and aesthetics of the building and its surroundings (sidewalks, access roads, bicycle infrastructure) will be improved. The interiors will be adjusted to modern traveler service standards, as well as to the needs of all travelers, including those with disabilities and families with children. In turn, modern technical solutions will improve security at the station (thanks to monitoring, among other things) and in its immediate surroundings, and the facility itself will become more environmentally friendly, including by improving its energy efficiency.
Thanks to the agreement, the building will serve the local community even better after the modernization, as according to the plans, in addition to rooms typically used for passenger services such as the waiting room, toilets and ticket offices, it will also house institutions providing services important to the city’s residents. Station functions will be moved to the first floor of the eastern wing, while the station’s western wing and upstairs spaces are to be developed by the local government.
The station is scheduled to be completed and put into operation in 2028., and the exact date will depend on the progress of further stages of the investment.
The total value of the project titled “Reconstruction of the Żyrardów railroad station” is currently PLN 35,446,251.18, of which the so-called qualified costs of the project (those to which subsidies could be obtained) amount to PLN 28,998,886.69. PKP S.A. has obtained EU funding under the European Funds for Eastern Poland 2021-2027 program in the amount of PLN 24,649,053.68 (85% of the costs), with the remaining 15% of the costs being the Company’s own contribution.
