Project for the modernisation of railway line no. 8 selected for funding

The Centre for EU Transport Projects (CEUTP) announced that the project no. FEPW.04.02‑IP.02‑0002/25 titled “Prace na linii kolejowej nr 8 na odcinku Skarżysko‑Kamienna – Kielce – Kozłów, etap I: odcinek Skarżysko‑Kamienna – Tumlin” (“Works on railway line no. 8 on the Skarżysko-Kamienna – Kielce – Kozłów section, stage 1: Skarżysko-Kamienna – Tumlin section”) has been selected for funding under the European Funds for Eastern Poland (EFEP) programme.

New tracks, safer and faster travel

Part of the investment includes a comprehensive modernisation of one of the key sections of railway line no. 8, which is crucial in terms of both passenger and regional transport. Among other things, the scope of works consists in: the reconstruction of approx. 62 km of tracks, modernisation of platforms at six stations and stops, redevelopment of 38 engineering structures, construction of new underground passages and overcrossings, as well as the installation of a modern railway traffic management system. Modernisation works are also planned for the traction network and supporting structures.

The main goal of the project is to increase the speed of passenger trains to 120 km/h, improve travel comfort for passengers, as well as to increase the capacity and punctuality of trains. The investment will improve the railway and road traffic safety as well, meanwhile focusing on the needs of people with mobility issues will contribute to the increase of transport accessibility.

The modernisation of the Skarżysko‑Kamienna – Tumlin section will also benefit the residents of the region, as well as the environment. This will result in shorter travel times, while also supporting the economic development of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship, as well as reducing the negative impact of transport on the environment, helping to support the implementation of sustainable development goals.

The project is a crucial part of the modernisation of the railway line no. 8, being a perfect example of the effective use of EU funds for the improvement of transport infrastructure quality in Poland.
