We have signed an agreement on co-financing the revitalisation of the railway line No 108 Jasło – Nowy Zagórz
The Centre for EU Transport Projects concluded an agreement with PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. for the co-financing of the project “Revitalisation of the railway line No 108 on the Jasło – Nowy Zagórz section along with the construction of the Jedlicze – Szebnie junction.” The investment will be supported by the European Funds for Eastern Poland 2021-2027 programme in a value exceeding PLN 1.2 billion.
The concluded agreement No FEPW.04.02-IP.02-0001/25 for co-financing from European Funds is another important step towards increasing transport accessibility of south-eastern Poland, including the Bieszczady Mountains, and improving the technical parameters of the railway infrastructure leading to the eastern border of the country.
The project covers
the comprehensive revitalisation of railway line No 108 on the Jasło – Nowy Zagórz section and the construction of a new railway junction Jedlicze – Szebnie, which will enable a direct connection between Rzeszów and Sanok, bypassing the Jasło station.
The investments include:
- upgrading 56 km of existing track and constructing 3 km of new track,
- construction of 3 railway tunnels,
- construction of 3 road viaducts,
- reconstruction of 18 railway stations and stops,
- construction of 6 new stops: Jasło Sobniów, Krosno Huta, Krosno Guzikówka, Krosno Południe (Gallery), Zagórz Przemysłowy and Moderówka,
- reconstruction of 80 level crossings,
- installation of a modern passenger information system and modernisation of traffic control equipment.
All infrastructure will meet accessibility requirements.
Benefits for passengers and the economy
The investment will boost the development of tourism in the region, enhance the daily mobility of the residents of those smaller villages and increase the economic attractiveness of the areas along its line.
Once completed, the journey is expected to be faster, safer and more comfortable. The travel time from Rzeszów to Krosno or Sanok is expected to be reduced by 20-25 minutes. The investment is also important for the economic development of the region – the upgrade will enable heavier loads to be carried, making freight transport more efficient.
About the investment
The project is financed under the European Funds for Eastern Poland 2021-2027 programme, with funds from the European Regional Development Fund under Priority FEPW.04 Cohesive transport network, Measure FEPW.04.02 Supra-regional railway infrastructure. The total value of this investment exceeds PLN 1.7 billion, of which more than PLN 1.2 billion is supported by European Funds. The work is expected to last until the end of 2029.
The call for proposals related to funding is being conducted on a non-competitive basis and will run until 18 December 2025. Projects included in the National Railway Programme are eligible for support. The scope of support also includes the redevelopment and modernisation of railway stations.
The budget for the call for proposals is: PLN 3 billion for linear projects (beneficiary: PKP PLK S.A) and PLN 100 million for railway station projects (beneficiary: PKP S.A.)
To date, three projects with a total value of PLN 855 million have been selected for funding. Among the projects there was an investment by PKP PLK named “Works on railway lines Nos 25, 74, 78 on the section Stalowa Wola – Tarnobrzeg – Sandomierz – Ocice – Padew” (the so-called “triangle”, constituting the closure of the transport system in the southern part of the macro-region). Funds have also been earmarked for the modernisation of the railway stations in Chełm and Rzeszów, carried out by the station infrastructure manager PKP S.A.
About the Programme
The FEPW programme supports the development of five Provinces in Eastern Poland and part of the Mazovia Province (excluding Warsaw and its surrounding districts), through investments in, among other things, mobility, transport infrastructure, innovation, climate protection and sustainable tourism.
